⚠️ UPDATE — March 11, 2026
Chloe Lewis confirmed live on Good Morning Britain that the surgery to reattach Beau's finger has failed. "Now we're in a situation where the finger has gone back on and it hasn't survived," she told hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid. "So yeah, he has lost the top half of his finger." The injury is now permanent — which is why she's fighting harder than ever for the law change. Source: Daily Mail

On New Year's Eve, 6-year-old Beau fell at a public skating session in the UK. Another skater ran over his hand. His finger was severed. Surgery to reattach it failed — confirmed by Chloe live on Good Morning Britain (March 11). His mother, Chloe Lewis, started a petition. 24,000 people signed it. And the UK's largest ice rink chain just blinked.
New Year's Eve. A 6-Year-Old on the Ice.
New Year's Eve. A 6-year-old at a public skating session — just a kid having fun with his family, exactly what you want to see at your rink. He falls. Happens a hundred times every session. Totally normal.
Except another skater doesn't see him go down.
Beau's hand is on the ice. The blade comes down. His finger is severed. Happy New Year.
Rushed to hospital. Surgeons spent 3.5 hours trying to reattach it. Surgery failed.

His Mom Went Public — and the Internet Listened
Chloe Lewis — former star of The Only Way Is Essex, 700K Instagram followers, not shy about using them — posted about the incident. Didn't mince words. Didn't need to.
"As I'll never be able to bring [his finger] back," she wrote, "I've started a petition with the government to make it compulsory for children to wear protective gloves while ice skating."
The petition went up on the official UK government petition portal — the kind where if it hits 100,000 signatures, Parliament is required to consider a debate.
Within weeks, it had over 24,000 signatures.

Planet Ice Didn't Wait for the Government
Planet Ice operates the largest chain of ice rinks in the United Kingdom. When a 24,000-signature petition about rink safety lands in the national news, large rink chains tend to notice.
In early March 2026, Planet Ice announced that protective gloves will be mandatory for all children under 12 at all Planet Ice venues, effective June 1, 2026.
Chloe Lewis applauded the move while making clear she won't stop until the policy is nationwide law.

So What's the Joke?
There's no punchline. But there is something deeply, absurdly British about this entire situation. Reality TV star's kid loses a finger on New Year's Eve. She starts a petition. 24,000 people sign it. The UK's biggest rink chain changes its policy — before Parliament even scheduled a meeting to discuss scheduling a meeting.
British democracy moving at warp speed. Which, by parliamentary standards, is basically a miracle. Beau would be proud.
💡 US rink operators: The Planet Ice policy is a leading indicator. Glove requirements for young skaters may be coming to US markets too — especially if personal injury attorneys are paying attention. Now's a good time to review your own policies. See our full liability breakdown in the 🛡️ Rink Risk section of this issue.
Bottom Line
One mom. One petition. One month. One policy change at the UK's biggest rink chain. The speed of this story is genuinely remarkable — and the implications for rink operators on both sides of the Atlantic are worth watching.
